About Me/Us (In a nutshell):
Mikel is an independent filmmaker and writer who lives in the Boston, Massachusetts area. Born and raised in Brazil, South America, he has spent most of his life viewing and talking about films. Mikel has directed several short films. In 2007, he directed the short "Cellar Door," which won the 2007 Cinephile Film Arts Grant, which then got it featured at the 2008 Indiana Festival of Independent Film and Video, and is being distributed internationally by Ouat Media (Canada), which is currently selling the film to several regions. Since then, Mikel directed another short film, "Cold October." So far "Cold October" has played at the 2008 International Film Festival of India (Short Film Center) and the 2009 Dam Short Film Festival. "Cold October" is also on sale on DVD through the Dam Short Film Society and is being distributed internationally by Ouat Media. Mikel's newest short film, "Always Reaching," is now being submitted to film festivals.
Mikel also works as a freelance videographer, has directed TV commercials, and has worked as a crew-member on feature films. In 2007, he worked as the 1st Assistant Director for the independent feature film, Silk Trees, directed by Jedidiah Burdick. He is now serving that same film as the final polishing editor.
That's too bad! Would have loved to catch up with you in person.
Visas aren't that difficult to get, by the way. Dave and Dawn got them in no time. Tourist visas are the easiest. If there is some chance, give it a shot!
Hey... I see you're making friends. :) Ok, more so, I see you and Dawn have met. ;)
Consider this my recommending Dawn for your next short or feature film.... ok, not so much recommending... but more of an ultimatum. just kidding....or am I? ;)
Hi Mikel, first of all, congratulations on your selection! The IFFI is indeed a big name around here as far as film festivals go. I haven't attended any though I must admit.
Btw, as I understand it, the SFC is a part of the IFFI... so I didn't quite get your question. And isn't it mandatory that you attend if your film is selected? I thought I had read something like that too... or have I got it all mixed up?

Trying to get people to talk about our network and our collaboration story, so I am in the process of pulling all my media contacts :-)
