Fired up!

The recent Fire tragedy in Victoria has had me in a spin! To think that someone has lit a fire in this very dry region-its been dry for the past 3 years! They have seen little or no rain!

This state of Victoria is populated by over 5.2 million people in 2007, & at a guess it is equal to half the size of NSW, which has a population of 6.2 million people. Simply put it is 'the most densly populated' state in Australia!! The repocutions of lighting a bush fire in such a densly populated area is paramount to murder, no questions asked!! Let alone the affects the fire does to the environment, peoples homes, security, wildlife, economy, etc, etc!

I think you are a criminal if you light a fire in uncontrolled conditions, without education & authority. If you do this without understanding the repocutions, then you have some kind of mental illness, & you need help!
I believe there should be education through media on a regular basis on the implications of lighting a fire & the behaviour of fire-it could mean the difference between life & death!! There should be a social stigma attached to mallice intent when it comes to fire, enough so that it sticks in the forefront of our minds.
Furhter more, at an early age as part of the curicullum through school we should be taught basics of the counrty/bush/environment in our area-all with an emphasis on respect for nature!
